The track and field season has now finished until next April...and the cross country season for clubs is about to get underway in a few days' time.

One of those leagues coming up is the Gwent Cross Country League which has since been newly named the "John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League". It has been going strong for numerous years since 1963, attracting athletes - juniors and seniors - from across South Wales and the South West of England.

It is open to those trying cross country for the first time in the novices going through under 13, under 15, under 17/20 and seniors, so there's a chance for everyone to get involved during the winter season!

The league has visited all corners of South Wales and the South West of England including Pembrey, Cardiff, Bridgend, Pontypool, Bristol, Taunton and Bath just to name a number of locations.

In October, November, December, February and March this year, it is set to start in the Welsh Capital alongside the Cardiff Cross Challenge before moving to West Wales. The half way mark will go to a new venue for many in Tredegar before the fifth and final match concludes across the bridge at Bristol.

Fixture two at Pembrey will involve the West Wales Cross Country Championships, where teams will be selected for the Welsh Athletics Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships in the first two weeks of December.

To get involved throughout the season in one of the Carmarthen teams, please see Cressy Morgan.
